WHAT: The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude

used for college admission purposes and often for
scholarships. The PSAT provides students an opportunity to
learn the format and subjects on the SAT. Since the PSAT
is only a practice test there is no need to stress about
taking it.
The PSAT consists of questions in reading, writing and
language, and math.
Reading and Writing exam 60 minutes
10 minute break
Math exam 60 minutes
The actual test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes. Additional
time is needed for the reading of instructions and
distributing test materials.
The PSAT/NMSQT is also a qualifying tests for the National
Merit Scholarship Corporation competition. Some
corporations and many universities offer scholarships
through the National Merit Scholarship program based on a
student's PSAT/NMSQT score. It is important to note that
if is difficult to earn a scholarship through the NMSQT.
Less than 7,000 students each year out of the 1.5 million
examinees earn scholarship money based on their PSAT/NMSQT
score.
PREPARING FOR THE PSAT:
The best preparation is to take advantage of learning
as much as you can in your English and math classes. The
knowledge taught over the years is the best practice you
will get for the PSAT.
WHAT TO BRING TO THE PSAT:
Students should bring their charged school issued
Chrome-book since the PSAT is administered on the
computer. It needs to be a school issued computer as the
College Board has to install a program on our school
computers before test day
.
